Size Guide

Sized by waist, not by age

Children of the same age vary enormously at the potty-training stage, so an age label tells you very little. Every size on this page is given as a waist measurement, because that is the one number that reliably predicts whether a pair will fit.

It takes about ten seconds with a tape measure, and it saves a return.

How to measure

  1. Measure around the tummy at the belly button, over a vest or bare skin — not over a nappy, which adds several centimetres.
  2. Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to slip one finger underneath.
  3. Match that number to the waist column in the table below.

Washable Training Pants — daytime

Size Waist Waist (inches)
S 36.5 cm 14.4 in
M 40 cm 15.7 in
L 42 cm 16.5 in

Measured flat and unstretched. The elasticated waistband stretches comfortably beyond these figures.

Night-Time Training Skirt & Shorts

The night range runs in two sizes, both with a double-wide ribbed waistband that sits high over the tummy and stretches as your child moves.

We are confirming exact measurements for the night range and will publish them here as soon as we have them in writing. If you would like the current figures before ordering, please get in touch and we will send them over.

Between two sizes? Size up.

This is the single most useful piece of advice on this page.

A slightly roomy pair is far easier for a small child to pull up and down without help than a snug one — and doing it themselves is the entire point of training pants. The elasticated waist takes up the slack, and they will grow into it faster than you expect.

How they should fit

  • The waistband should sit flat against the tummy without digging in or leaving a deep mark.
  • Your child should be able to pull them up unaided. If they are struggling at the hips, go up a size.
  • The leg openings should be close but not tight. Gaping at the legs is usually a sign the pair is too big overall.

Still not sure?

Send us your child's waist measurement and we will tell you honestly which size to order — or whether to wait a few weeks. We would far rather do that than have you send something back.
